On December 7, 1941, shortly before 8 am that morning, Japanese fighter planes attacked a large Naval base off the coast of Honolulu, Hawaii. This attack was a great loss for the United States, Japan managed to destroy 20 American vessels, 8 large battleships and many aircrafts. This attack was very devastating, following the fact that the United States lost over 2,000 Americans. The thing is, United States officials actually predicted an attack on a close, Southern European colony. This is because it would be extremely inconvenient, because where Japan attacked, is actually 4,000 miles from Japan, and that’s a lot of back and forth for travel for weapons or supplies. Just a day after the attack, Franklin D. Roosevelt wrote his speech, and asked Congress to declare war on Japan, which ended with only one disagreeing vote. Shortly after, Germany and Italy, former allies of Japan, also declared war on the United States. This threw the United States in a serious war, and one that caused millions of deaths, because of the Holocaust, and it’s definitely one that will be remembered in infamy.
